House of Cards
Together we built a house of cards
With patient hands and close regard
Highest hopes, illusive beams
Secured our little house of dreams
“Let me marry you,” she said,
“My love is sure, my arms widespread.”
She was all that he could see;
She marred his vision easily
But troubled times were rolling in;
They beat their backs to stop the wind
And in their strain they gained new sight;
It happened on a still, cool night
In his slumber, her heart went hard
She dashed outside and pulled a card
The house caved in and so did we
He, confined beneath debris
The cards were sharp like shards of glass
As he screamed and breathed his last
And underneath a starlit sky
She bid him not a kiss goodbye
