Mounds of intricate crystals block the doorway
Spilling over tree branches and sparkling in the clear sunshine
Bare skeletons of boughs are coated with a sheen of glossy ice
Scratching at window panes covered in frost

Families of winds play around corners
Tagging, scampering, and chasing in the freedom of their nocturnal domain
The shrieks of their antics send chills through the crisp air
With disregard to the sleeping earth below
They cry like a lone wolf to the full moon

Like the turn of a page, things do change
The almighty mother opens her door
Calling home her lively chicks
At the sight of her face, the sun does smile
Stretching its rays to fill every nook

Melting crystals flow into gurgling streams
Leaving behind bare brown terrain
Warmth tickles trees to life
Buds bursting into lime green leaves
Decorating the landscape with new vegetation

Hesitant blades of grass peek up from decaying mast
Coloring the ground with a gentle hue
Delicate petals of young flowers unfold in the sunshine
Adding a festival of hues to the new season

This ballad was inspired by the dramatic change from the depths of winter to the promise of spring.
