A Farmer’s Prayer
As the full moon passes, through the dark night sky
The farmer thanks the lord, for the day that’s gone by
He pats his old dog, who’s no longer a pup
Then stares into heaven, as the stars wake up
Dear Lord he says you put rain on my crops
The mortgage is paid, and the tractor didn’t stop
My family isn’t hungry and the cattle have been fed
So tonight, thanks to you, I’ll sleep well in my bed
Thank you lord for all that you gave
Especially your son, who came here to save
If I wake in the morning, to a new days begin
And I’ll roll out of bed, off to work again
But if I die in my sleep, and they bury me below
I’ll wake up in heaven, where there’s no crops to grow
