The Ballad of the Siblings
There once was a fun little family of six,
The four kids made it quite the motley mix.
Thesiblinggs were close – close as could be,
The parents were happy – happy and free.
Then came another from a far away land,
A land where bombs blow and everything is sand.
He came and broke the little family apart,
Tore them away right to the heart.
Chaos was everywhere the eye could see,
But the siblings stayed close – close as could be.
The girl of ten cried – cried every night,
While she heard mom and dad scream and fight.
The girl of twelve tried to comfort the other,
Tried to replace the figure of the mother.
The boy of seventeen kisses her cheek,
Says it’s okay to sometimes be weak.
The girl of seventeen drifts slowly away,
Starts hating her parents for the things that they say.
The happy fun family paid their fee,
The siblings weren’t close – not as close as could be.
All that was left was a sliver of hope,
Hope that the family would be able to cope.
Then suddenly the foreigner is kicked out of the house,
Everything becomes quiet – quiet as a mouse.
Things start to get better; all of them agree,
But the siblings still aren’t close – not as close as could be.
Over time the cuts turn into scars,
Scars to remind the family of who they are.
The parents become happy – happy and free,
The siblings become close – close as could be.
