Picture Frame
I have an empty picture frame
that will never be hung.
The empty space was for the
smiling faces of our young.
In my mind I picked a place out,
in our future home
to show off pictures of the kids
that we could call our own.
The thought of us alone in life
makes me kind of sad.
Just think about your feelings
when you first hear them say "Dad".
Can't you hear them laughing as
you tickle them, they shriek?
Or see me reading stories
to help them fall asleep?
I care more for your wishes than
for mine; that says a lot.
I wanted you to know that
this is what I think about.
The empty picture frame can
be filled with some reclaim,
maybe picture just us two as
I receive your name.
There's a spot saved in my heart
in case you change your mind.
There isn't any pressure, though.
Alone, we'll be just fine.
