Regardless
One mild summers night,
I wandered the woods, with only the light of the stars.
Desolate and free, with no other beings;
a swiftly moving shadow catches my eye.
A small, friendly mouse
scampered to my side,
for a friend is a friend, regardless of size.
To the haggard path, we kept,
leaves crunching under every step.
Curious eyes scanned us from the trees,
and into our path, their owner leapt.
A red and silver fox
slinked over to our side,
for a friend is a friend, regardless of size.
The night led to day,
sending us each our own way,
until the next time, when we can congregate and say,
That a human, a fox, and a small grey mouse
Can stand side by side,
For a friend is a friend, regardless of size.
