An American Soldier
An American Soldier
by Brittney Clark
To the Music of, ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World
America, I’m here fighting for you
My wife is at home making it through
Benny, my son, is only two
I swear on my life I’ll come home to you
I know what I need to do
I’ll just keep holding on
‘Til my deployment is through
I fight with pride in my heart
Until a road-side bomb
Blows my world apart
Say something, comrade, I can’t lose you
The paramedics will know what to do
I see them draw near before I black out
The last thing I hear is a panicked shout
And I wake up in my bed
The doctor tells me
I’m lucky I’m not dead
At home in a wheelchair after 20 years
My wife’s eyes are filling with tears
Ben’s off to the war and I’m filled with fear
America, help me if you can hear
Save my son, I still believe in you
Say Something
