Explore Me
Once he wrote, “Trust in the Lord in all that you go through and encounter,”
Something like that because the ripped letter was all I could remember,
And he cried teardrops that stained blue lines and black ink,
A paper-thin heart was all he could think,
But he never had time to explore me or the One who created him,
I wasn’t good enough for him, only a human made of skin.
He only had time for winning and success,
Now, he left me with thorns instead of roses
And a canvas as a painted mess,
And sometimes he pours out of me on these lines,
But only when I find I can’t seem to cry,
Not here, when the music of love plays in a distant room,
Maybe it is coming to explore me soon.
Sometimes I wonder who shall do the comforting now,
When you’re chasing your dreams wearing a golden crown,
And I’m looking across from me into his eyes
Thinking happily that you’ve decided to tell me goodbye.
I told my love to take this time to explore me,
In all that I am and can be,
Explore every inch of me until you’ve got a map memorized
My emotions whirl around like the wind for a ride,
He promised he would love me on the inside.
And I trusted in Him, even when you were busy being free,
He decided my lock didn’t fit your key,
I only wish, out of your jaded eyes, you could finally see,
That pain never felt so good when I knew you weren’t meant for me.
