The Fall
They were stretched out across the couch.
Autumn leaves floating peacefully by.
Cold air frosting the windows.
Warm against each other’s chests.
He breathed her in,
The smell of her hair.
Their heartbeats
were the only way to tell time.
He looked into her sleepy eyes,
and slowly, very slowly.
He began to feel it.
A thrill in his stomach,
one he’d never felt before.
As he continued to stare at her,
he felt it more and more.
And all of a sudden, it was
crashing
like a tidal wave onto the shore.
It was dragging him towards a
black abyss.
He knew he would fall in,
but he gave in to the whim.
Terrified but electrified,
what he was about to say was true.
He whispered in her ear,
“I think I’m in love with you.”
