To her
Her eyes they shone dark grey
Like a midnight summer haze
After the sunset she would lay beneath the moon
Her dreams they whispered "I'll see you soon."
She would wear her favorite sweater,
The one they gave to her last winter
Her parents trying to find the perfect gift
Her spirits they tried so hard to lift
It cuddled her to sleep each night
Catching her dreams and wishing them away at sight
And replaced with hope and imagination and love
Her dreams they were filled with flowers and doves
But when she would awake, her nerves they followed
Pump, pump, pump, through her veins they would find each hollow
And when she thought she could escape every thought
Her soul the anxiety eventually bought
And like the night sky her sweater it contrasted
The green, the blues, the earth and all on it that lasted
Her dark grey eyes finding her place on the forest floor
As she lay to rest her future and forever more
Her parents would say that they did what they could
To save a precious girl from the dark, dark woods
But they never thought to ever ask,
"Are you okay? " it was too hard of a task
So say goodbye and I'll see you soon
To the girl with the black sweater
For her parents never thought that she'd ever go under
With the sweater they bought for her only last winter
