Weathering Love
Though its been forever, you will never change in my eyes.
Nothing is different; your smile, your scent, not event your size.
The ways you laugh, cry, and sing are impossible to forget,
And it strikes me just the same as on the day we first met.
Now, we’ve been apart for so long that the world around us changed.
Natures transformed chronologically, in the way the seasons are arranged.
A frigid, harsh winter has chilled me to my bone.
Even though I'm with others, without you I’m alone.
I find paths we used to cross that are hidden in the snow.
The journeys we went on, no one else will ever know.
As the snow begins to melt and we trade in jackets of fur,
Another season passed without you left me unsure.
Your beauty out there somewhere, for someone else to see.
But I miss it the most, and that someone should be me.
A breezy spring full of green grass and blue skies,
Where a fragrant flower picked by you would be the perfect prize.
I stare up at the clouds, and in their shapes I see you,
Sure it seems impossible but I promise that it’s true.
Days go by and even the clouds of you disappear
Another season gone, and the sweltering one is near.
Your sweet sounding words get lost if I’m not around.
Among things that I miss most, you’re the first to be crowned.
I can’t escape the summer heat, and the sun beating down on my back.
Cool ocean waves crash over me like I am under attack.
The beautiful sun sets on the horizon, lingering into the night,
A full moon then takes over, with a hue that’s even more bright.
As the nights grow cooler, I’m reminded of the warmth that you once brought,
While sitting at the bonfire, with you in my thoughts.
A crisp aired autumn settles down like a leaf.
Turning yellow, orange, red, and then falling to your feet
Now its cool in the mornings, and warm by noon,
The only thing that seems steady is how I feel about you.
As hollow as the carved pumpkins on every doorstep,
I’ve felt empty as the seasons passed, I’ve cried and I’ve wept.
Another season complete, and we’re back to where we began,
This time spending it with you would be the perfect plan.

I wrote this piece for a drama class assignment and it is inspired by Shakespeare's Sonnet 104. I had to first interpret Shakespeares work line by line, but was then given the freedom to make something of my own.
