The True Beast
Lost from her home, a girl searched for a sign
Scurrying into a woods like a troubled mouse
Escaping the clutches of a sinister feline
That from its slumber had been aroused
But how, might you ask, was the creature stirred?
Lingering adrift was a scent of great distress
Which kindled its ravenous hunger, and then it heard
Fast, frantic footsteps thumping, and the rustling of a dress
It found the lost girl, stealthily stalking without noise
Closing in, she felt its prickling breath behind her
The beast sneered, the girl would fall to his ploys
Panic would entwine the thick ropes that would bind her
Pain and dread and raw terror all tangled into one.
The girl’s feelings were unraveled, her face moist with tears
Fabricated in her mind was the monster she had outrun
The true beast lay ensnared in her own fears.
