Something Else
Since I was a child
The answer was always to think of something else.
Stomach ache?
Think of something else, dear, you’ll be fine.
Stubbed toe?
Think of something happy, and the pain will go away.
Argument?
Just forgive and forget, think of why you love each other.
Bored?
Distract yourself with useless things.
That was always the answer, no matter what problem faced me.
Now as I grow older, it’s the exact same way.
Sprained Ankle?
Walk it off, you have a game to play.
Aching Heart?
It’s not real, you’ll be fine.
Emotionless?
Do something you enjoy and it will all be okay.
Suicidal?
Distract yourself, and everything will be alright.
So that’s what I tell myself every day
When I want to die
The first time I pulled a blade across my skin.
I distracted myself
Wore gloves and bracelets the next day
And no one ever knew
But they were always right
Think of something else
And you’ll be fine.
