Man in the Moon
I am in love with the Man in the Moon
his benign smile
his soothing presence
his soft demeanor
I reach out to him
and his somber eyes reveal his wish
to extend his hand and bring me to
Paradise.
the Sun, the envious Sun
he wrenches is apart
a love so pure he cannot cope
the Sun is piercing,
glaring,
frustrated for I cannot bear to meet his gaze
I am imprisoned.
everyday is routine
on those halcyon nights the moon and I love wistfully from afar
until the sun rises from the darkness
flinging the Man in the Moon from sight
I hide as the Sun continues to purse my heart
begging for me to look him straight
when the Moon comes once again I run to him
embracing the tender glow from his melancholy love
and stare from my window perch until my eyes close
he does not sleep though, keeping watch
many times he and I talk ‘til the boisterous Sun rises
I am in love with the man in the moon
but the Sun will never let us be.
