At the Beach
A wave knocks a toddler off of her feet
And into the sand she falls
She tumbles down and scratches her knee
Loudly for her mother she calls
By the ocean a lonely teenager sits
Contemplating suicide alone
Cuts run up and down her wrists
She cries in a mournful tone
A mother of two strolls by the sand
Remembering fondly her youth
But alas her thoughts are interrupted and end
As her seven-year-old yells over losing a tooth
An old and frail woman wheels herself down the wharf
Squinting hard to see the ocean blue
The wind gives her chills, she’s forgotten her scarf
The simplicity of her younger days, she tries to pursue
At the beach, we all join together
We celebrate growth and new life
The water is restless from the windy weather
As are melancholy elders, facing eternal nightlife
At the beach
