What Growing Up Does
I was from a squeaking swing and slippery slide.
From a yard that you could not see the other side.
A yard next to my best friend.
Now, from a subdivision.
From a ten minute haul to his house.
Now from a yard where I could hear the garage opening next door.
I used to be from worms with a bobber.
Begging my older brother to take me.
Scared to touch the fish.
Now, no fear.
Asking my friends to come with me.
From a kayak floating down creek keeping what I catch.
I used to be from family road trips to South Carolina.
From going to California with Mom.
Going to 38 states.
Now, going alone.
Unable to reminisce in the memories made there.
Texting my Mom pictures 800 miles away at a place she wanted to see.
