I Scorn the White Picket Fence
I scorn the white picket fence
With the big house and the obnoxious kids
If that is the American Dream then I shall remain
A non- Dreamer
I wish to see the heights
Watch the falls
I live to see each day as an adventure
To hunt for the next thrill to soothe my soul
The idea of a big house
With children running freely concerns me
There is no happiness there for me
(But if there is for you
Then, please, feel free)
A place where I am locked down
Is not the freedom I yearn for
It was not my dream to hear the screams
Of grades and teachers all day
Rather, I need to see
To feel free
The only way to achieve that for me
Is to stay far away from the white picket fence
To see what the world has to offer
To reach, to adventure
And for that
I must scorn the white picket fence

I wrote this after working on an assignment about the American Dream. I wrote after thinking about what my ideal life would be.
