Façades.
I was borne to façades—
And became mask of their marriage.
They slit their bonds,
Paper dismantled by blade’s kiss.
Myself internalizing:
Knuckle’s indentation, whiskey’s song.
My destiny lies beneath a mask,
Chipped at—
Torn. Broken. Demolished with passing seconds.
Never to be forgotten; never undone—unwound.
The façades hide beneath masks,
Which gleam under the sun:
Gleam as crystallized diamonds.
None which lack shared blood view their visage.
Imperfections could never indeed exist;
When one is bound to Façade’s wrists.

This poem showcases the outcome of being raised in a household characterized by façades. The speaker must learn to find his own identity, which has been buried in the many masks forced upon him by his family. He no longer knows who he is, only the person he has been made to be; living the falsified life which has been bestowed upon him.
