A Walk in the Rain
"It's all over," they finally said.
The world and its joys began to fade,
The shout that left the little girl
Could not express the curse that was hurled.
"A bright future ahead of Emily,"
Had said the teacher from Lerwick city.
The future, much like the rain that poured,
Came and went at the speed of Bolt.
She walked in the rain soaking and cold,
But nothing seemed to matter anymore.
How she wished she had wholeheartedly begged,
Begged them to stay with her, in their tent.
The perspective had been changed forever.
She didn't mind their little fights thereafter,
Even each reprimand was more cherished than gold,
Love and kindness seemed to be woven into every fold.
Her residence would now be that red home,
The centre for the lonely and orphaned souls.
She wished again that she had stopped her parents
From leaving her alone in a world vaster than Barents.
