The Sun

Somehow,

Someway,

Everything you say I listen to.

I can pick you voice out of a crowd,

As distinct as a lion’s roar.

Your words,

Your voice,

They comfort me.

The moment I begin to feel blue,

When darkness begins to overpower light,

You shine.

You are the sun

Bold and bright

You inspire me

To go out and do something, anything.

Your smile I can see for miles.

I try to be around you as much as humanly possible,

Because I crave that joy you supply.

You are the sun.

And I fear sunburn and skin cancer

As if they were the bubonic plague,

Yet I prance about as the sun shines on me.

Light invading every crevice of my body,

Infesting me with its light -

Your light.

The stars seem so far,

As the sun is so close.

You are the sun.

Always so close,

Yet so far.

What will I do when I cannot see you?

I theorize I will become a recluse,

Hiding in shadows,

Forgetting what light’s sweet embrace gives me.

You are the sun.

My joy and my world.

Without you I am pale

I am sick

I am nothing.

I am full of fear.

Awaiting the moment you come back

And the sun returns to my world.

You are the sun.

And upon your return,

I fearfully step away from the grasp of the shadows

And your wonder surrounds me.

In awe I run to you.

Running forever,

As Icarus proved,

It’s impossible for a mere human to touch the sun.

But I will try.

For you give me light and happiness,

Everything I could ask for.

I need you.

For you are my sun.
