"chemistry between people is the strangest science of all" - Bridgett Devoue

the snow globe warms and takes with it

changing tides and winds that never stop

a storm is coming to pay you a visit

drip drap drup drop

wait by the door and stare out

the window, feel it get cold on your

fingertips, mother is coming without a doubt

at least you thought this back at four

drap drip drop drup

the flowers they will thrive

hold your hands out in a cup

and catch the rains like when you were five

father will not wait beside you and you are alone

worthless stupid mistake wasted

thoughts don’t fade once you’ve grown

nor does the sour that you’ve tasted

step outside and the rain plops onto your skin

drup drop drip drap

they’ve forgotten you as their kin

don’t you know by now? it isn’t a trap

their fishing line, it’s you it hooks

slow and painful, cold and merciless

mother’s looks, father’s books

at least the rain is marvelous

and your heart, it did skip

a single beat but it was lying to you

drop drup drap drip

and in your heart, you know you always knew

The author's comments:

i love reading other people's poems, and i've always loved writing in lowercase. recently, i've been reading lots of e. e. cummings' poetry, and this piece is inspired by "anybody lived in a pretty how town."
