I was in your town
for the first time
in what seemed like forever.
I tried not to think of you,
but I couldn't avoid the sting in my chest.
The way my smile turned into a frown.
The pain I felt when I saw you.
You were everywhere but,
You were nowhere.
You were what I saw
when I closed my eyes.
You haunted my dreams,
so I stayed awake.
You were my pain.
You were my suffering.
You were my hate,
but you were never mine.
