How to be a (for the most part) grown up teen
Often times consider yourself better than those around you when they're acting foolish; get annoyed because you know you could do it better; judge them for not having their lives together; roll your eyes when they goof off or act immature; but now still crack a smile and laugh when someone said “boobs”; occasionally throw in a “your mom” joke; roll your eyes at the 6th grade boys for running around and roughhousing with each other; play fight with your friend in the middle of class using yard sticks as swords; spend your lunch times studying and think how immature and pathetic the rest of them are for doing nothing; get grossed out and so fed up you could scream when the young lovers in the hall cause a traffic jam in the hall, post about wearing eachothers sweatshirts, and always make a scene in class; roll your eyes because you know they will break up sooner or later and that they are acting like smitten fools; fall in love with someone; convince yourself that is different, its mature and is real; get emotionally invested in someone else and make them your priority; get upset when they don't do what you want and fuss over little texts; scoff at those who cry from their puny high school breakups; think you could do everything better than everyone here if you were just given a chance; ponder the questions of the universe; stare into space for hours trying to think of the answers to questions that cannot be answered; now play a video game; binge watch cartoons and things that make your brain feel like mush; laugh at an inappropriate joke; make an inappropriate joke; continue preparing for the future because it feels like you have nothing else to do while you wait; stress over the little things; attempt to write a novel at the age of 14; paint your nails at 1am while listening to crazy music; but scold your friend who stays up playing video games every night; take the position of the “mom” among your friends; but also the role of “the kid with the crazy crackhead energy”; switch between those every few moments so no one really knows what to expect; rown upon gossip and drama but anytime you hear something good, make sure to tell a few people; call someone a nark or a nerd when they ask for more homework or act like they know everything; think your feelings are more real because you think you've been through more; laugh at cheesy love songs until you feel like you are in one of them; complain about how everyone else just changes their mind so fast and just doesn't know anything especially socially; have a petty hatred for three people you used to be friends with; get insanely jealous of the most beautiful girl in school and therefore decide to hate her; wish your classes were more useful and intense because all of this is pointless and you just want to get to the good stuff; complain about homework every night even when you barely have a page; create emotional connections to fictional characters because you know you can predict what they're going to do; write your feelings away and make the friend or parent or partner you always wanted in your characters; get lost in your own mind; promise yourself things like looks or what you wear doesn't matter but sometimes have to hide the mirror because it makes you sad; say you don't need your parents and you can be alone; think you have an advantage because I already kind of live alone in my tiny house and pretend that wasn't all given to me and it doesn't make anyone less mature if they don't have that; think not much about religion because in your mind you dont need anyones help; give outrageous gifts and make things for others and pretend you don't expect something in return; decide how you show up in any given situation but always paint yourself in a better light; make an irresponsible bad choice like all teens do; then follow that by saying yours was different. You will teach others and you will be mature about it when in reality you just wish you could go back and cover it up a little better; just feel so over everything and everyone; wonder why a lot of people don't like to talk to you; think every time someone whispers to their friend or shows them something on their phone in the middle of class it's always about you; when you try to talk about all your complex feelings and notions about the world, get angry when someone says oh yeah I thought/did the same when I was a teen because you don't want to be like every other teen; but you also don't want to be too different from all the other teens because even though you hate to admit it you are still susceptible to peer pressure; just want to be left alone; get in that silly goofy mood that lasts maybe ten minutes where you run around and act like a total nut; now repeat, everyday.

When you feel more mature than all your friends but act like a wild two year old the next second, your life is full of hypocrisy and can feel like you are being town between two very separate personalities.
