Fading

Eyes, too tired to close

Mind, too busy to open

Lungs, too full to breathe

Heart, too empty of beat steady.

They’re fading fading fading.

Land, too solid to walk on

Sea, too liquid to float in

Sky, too small to fly across

Space, too vast to drift.

They’re fading fading fading,

Away Away Away.

Boat, too soft for a bed

Bed, too hard for a boat

Stars, too everchanging for sailing

Ocean, too common for stars.

They’re fading, sailing, drifting,

Away Away Away.

Monitor, too loud to be heard

Pulse, too quiet to go unnoticed

Bile, too sour to be brought up

Medicine, too sweet to keep down.

They’re fading, dying, drifting,

Away away away.

Pulse, too slow to be real

Boat, too fast to be fake

Space, too perfect too drift across

Mind, too broken to care.

They’ve faded faded faded,

Away Away Away.

The author's comments:

This was a poem I made during a particularly slow moment where I was left alone with my thoughts. It's based off a near and dear character I created and their struggles navigating their mind and the world around them.
