pumpkin patch
My father once told me that
once I started dating
I shouldn’t just settle for the first boy that picks me from the patch.
Just because they chose me didn’t mean we were a perfect match.
Unfortunately,
Despite acknowledging he was correct,
I was not able to pass this test.
I met a boy,
that I grew to understand.
My heart fit right in the palm of his hand.
But as all pumpkins do,
I began to grow stale,
And he went behind my back
and revisited the patch.
When I first saw this new pumpkin he bought
I held back tears as I thought,
Father please forgive me, as
I promise I know my worth
but others do not.
