the birth of a poet
to be with you
is to be unchained
like the melody on the radio
but now all it conveys is pain
if you had to choose
would it be me?
or would his words be
so overpowering, the idea leaves me
cowering.
do you know you’ve birthed two poets
of the same caliber?
do you know they write til their hands cramp?
do you realize your power?
the more i read the more i think
you loved him more
but he could never use his words
to explain my love for you.
i lov(ed) you more.
did he entice you with his prose?
are you entangled in his metaphors for you?
can you see me, entangled in my own?
even in repose, breathing through your nose
i should thank you, though
for the pain, we are one in the same
without you,
a soldier,
a maniac,
a lover,
a poet,
would be missing.
