Where im from
I am from sharp and pointy running shoes
From metal and multi-colored tracks
I am from six lanes made into circles
Where it smells like nature and smelly socks
I am from the tree that glances upon the track, day in and day out
Whose long limbs I remember
As if fate would be the same for tomorrow.
I am from fragile and delicate
From Romel and Junith
From gospel at ten meaning get out of bed
From having our sunday resets
With a feast that forever makes sense
I am from “you’re just a girl, stay in your lane”
From “Sports are for boys, the kitchen is your place”
I am from being taught to take care of a man
I am from a tiny little island, specifically Port-au-Prince
From Where fried plantain and vegetable stew that bring about peace for just a few
From my mothers four girls
And different perspective of the world
The family portrait we never took
But eventually make room for
