The Untouchable
I stretch my arm out to the night sky
I’m crying with never-ending teardrops
I can’t reach the happiness inside of me
The person I cared for is gone and out of sight
My insides curl up into a tight ball
My arms and legs feel numb as I try to walk
I wipe the dreadful tears off my face and ask
‘Why did you have to leave?’
Where will you be when I move on from elementary
Where will you be when I am looking at my new school
Where will you be when I start as a woman
Where will you be when I go to high school
Where will you be when I am at my graduation
Will you be in heaven looking down at my successes
Will you be in heaven enjoying the presence of God
Will you be in heaven wishing to be here with me
Why, mother, why?
Why did you have to leave?
Where will you be when I get my first child
Where will you be when I am getting married
Where will you be when I get a child
Where will you be when I graduate from college
Where will you be?
Do you even still remember me?
It’s your daughter you left back by the sea
You left me with you in my memory
I reach for you in the night sky
And I ask you to come back
You left me when I was so little
I need a mom now
I’m a teenager with just a single dad
And two friends I know will always have my back
When, when, when, when
When will I ever get to see you again

I'm currently writing a book and this poem is the main character's point of view about her life without a mother. She is sixteen in the book and lost her mother at a very young age, so this poem I wrote for the main character. It can be for anyone who doesn't have a dad, mom, parents, or anyone in general. This is not about me.
