Egg .
It starts out
Innocent pearly white
On the nest
Of its mother hen
Warm human hands
Lift it away
Ready to be sold
And bought by the public
The bright fluorescent lights
Of the supermarket shelves
The cold icy breeze
From the frozen food section
The clean oval sits in styrofoam
With eleven others
Waiting for a new set of hands
To choose it
And then it’s at home
With the dogs barking
And the whine of a child
Taken out of the refrigerator
And then it is cracked
Into the hot greasy pan
And you can hear the sizzling
Of a delicious frying egg
