Be True To You
Why's it so complicated
to be yourself?
Why is everyone struggling
to please someone else?
I want to do what I want to
just for me,
But my mind keeps wandering
to the image that others want to see.
Why am I afraid
to show who I am?
Why do I put on this mask?
I feel like a sham.
I want to say what I feel,
without being shunned.
I want to stand out like the North Star;
rise like the sun.
It's harder than it seems
to really not care,
when people smirk and make fun of your hair.
This poem sounds childish,
I know that it's true,
But I hope it gives you encouragement
to just be you.
So laugh when you fall down, smile at those girls
who don't realize that you run your own world.
Maybe one day they will understand,
that loving yourself will give you somewhere to land.
