Hawk King
Tall and majestic in the tree branches,
Feathers speckled brown and beautiful.
He surveys his land,
Just like a king.
He looks straight at me.
I freeze under his cold, yellow stare.
I can’t look away.
But he drops his gaze- I’m no threat.
I watch him a few moments more.
Until he spreads his wings and glides away.
I leave too, but I know I’ve been burned by
His yellow, level, fierce, calm, brave, proud, glare.
His intelligence and
The wisdom in his gaze
Haunt me- The Hawk King.
