Behind Me
i could feel your breath on my neck
your huge warm hands cupping either side
of my waist
the skin on my cheek tickled and immediately
heated
when you touched your soft blonde head to mine
i couldn't see your face
but i knew you had your eyes closed
so did i
your thick brown lashes rested peacefully
your smell
boy, outdoors, laundry
made me feel safe
i felt your breaths come quick and harsh
blowing the hair gently off my cheek
you touched your lips to my collarbone
softly
i rested; poised on the cusp of humanity
the blank, wonderful emptiness
and that's when you said it.
I love you.
