Where Are You
Where are you
Black cat?
whose bright yellow eyes
stare at me with wisdom within
whose long curling tail
slaps my legs
whose thick coat
collects brambles and dust
Where are you
Proud horse?
whose soft snorts
fill my ears
whose delicate nose
nuzzles my hands
whose bounding gaits
carry me
Where are you
Brown bird?
whose quick pecking beak
gobbles up seeds
whose round body
rests in the branch of a tree
whose beating wings
glide through the air
Where are you
Shy deer?
whose long legs
hit the soft ground as you flee
whose white tail
bobs in the wind
whose quick beating heart
pounds like a drum
Where are you
Flat fish?
whose bright scales
shimmer in the light
whose puckering lips
open and close, gasping for air
whose darting fins
flick the water
We are gone
Gone like firesmoke
Far away from you world
of concrete and glass
of loud music and talking
and plastic
We live in another world
of still streams and green earth
of waving trees and crying gulls
and rain.
