The Steeple
Bow your head child
And pray, it will set itself right.
That the sun will rise
And put an end to this night.
But pray oh so silent
Lest the words be lost in their heads.
You will wake the beast
Who will erase everything you’ve said.
Surrounded by uselessness
On ground that wreaks of a stale ecstasy.
A church bell rings
It’s beautiful tune so deceptively.
Best interest they’ve lost.
Intentions have run away.
Just promise the father
You will not run astray.
Sing their songs
And read their book.
Swear to believe in
The lessons they’ve took.
But softly behind lips
Mumble your very own prayer.
To what you truly believe in
I want your allegiance to swear.
So bow your head child
And pray away the night.
You need not a steeple
To do what you know is right.
