The too familiar sound
The too familiar sound
For some people pain comes and goes with the days
But for someone like me the pain always stays
The hurt of a family who never could seem to get along
The responsibility of standing tall so everyone thinks I’m strong
Fighting and yelling is all I ever seem to hear
But I have nowhere to go because losing them is my biggest fear
I’ve already lost too many people that at one point I did adore
So this time around I promised myself that I’ll deal with a little bit more
The man I should have always been able to depend on my whole life through
Never once stopped to think about me or you
He claims to have done the very best he could
Until the day he got caught and ran like we knew he would
As the schools day go by I move with the sound of a bell
But on weekends I hear the too familiar sound of a slamming jail cell
I try not to let my pain be revealed in my eyes
As I endure listening to his pre-rehearsed alibis
The truth to escape from his lips is not something I will ever expect
And at this point his outrageous lies I can easily detect
I will always love him and he knows that to be true
But holding back a cry as we tell our father goodbye
Is something I will never forgive him for making us do
