Memories in the Dust
Memories so old, colors once vibrant
 are now faded motionless
Memories that once danced and twirled in your head
now sit to take a breather on the splintered bench
Memories that once made your lips curl to a smile
now make your eyes squeeze shut and drip the past
Memories that once got you through the day
now hold you back from living your life
Memories that once made your heart soar into another world
now are the thoughts slipping away as soap suds in dish water
memories that once made you throw your head back and laugh till you ached
now bury themselves further into the covers and moan “five more minutes”
memories that you once said you would never forget
are now coated in a grime of dust, slipping away into the darkness
