it is a peculiar feeling, falling away from someone
once held dear, once held close enough
that their soul brushed up against yours
and left a mark forever burned into the recesses of your heart

it is a peculiar feeling, looking back
and remembering a smile and a laugh and a stolen moment,
and then looking forward, and seeing an empty space,
an inky void, where they once stood proud

it is a peculiar feeling, falling away from someone,
the ground giving way beneath your once sure footing,
the sky opening wide and swallowing hole
the place that was once the perfect size and shape for a lonely dream or two

ah, the joys of reading lots of good poetry and becoming inspired to write your own shallow imitation

thank you that means a lot to me! i love your work write more so i can comment on more! most of my poems don't rhyme but most also don't flow this good... i had been reading poetry and had been inspired to write one with a more traditional 4-line stanza and all that :)
