Catch Me?
If I was falling, would you catch me?
Such a simple question
That has many answers.
I ask you as I sit on a wall, looking
Down at you, standing in front of me.
If I was falling, would you catch me?
You smile your smile and laugh and say,
Of course.
I shriek with laughter as you grab my waist and lean me back.
See? Of course I’d never let you fall.
You would catch me.
If I tripped
As we were walking along the sand,
And I was about to fall,
I’d grab for your hand,
Expecting you to catch me.
And you would.
Catch me.
If I fell down the rabbit hole,
And was going completely mad.
I’d look around for you first,
And ask if you’d catch me.
And you’d smile and say,
Of course.
And then you would.
Catch me.
But what if,
I was falling down a hole
that I couldn’t get out of?
What if I was falling down a hole that was pitch black?
So I couldn’t see you.
Would you catch me?
Or would I have to ask.
Catch me?
