An explanation for why it is
denied
these days it's everything
and nothing
you act in one movie
a TV show
suddenly you can sing
dance
triple threat
why's that?
Some rank you now
among the greats
not I.
Piano player
best in class
-until you're compared to the master.
Little league
soccer team
number one
but
then middle school
when the competition
kicks your ***.

So what is talent?
In our eyes
or
another's?
Who decrees
what's amazing?
Who has the authority
to 'sign here'?
Why is there someone choosing
who will be the one
to rise above
the rest?

And why
tell me
is it that half of society
in my country, at least
values actors and
designers,
game show hosts
and fast food
chains,
retailers
and
comedians above
lawyers
doctors
authors
missionaries
or scientists?

I know
it's not everyone who is
this way
yet
and I'm not pointing fingers
I've never been one to blame
still
I've got
to
ask
why?

When did it become 'cool'
to worship
the propaganda we're fed
24/7
to believe in
fame
perfection
beauty is money
or, wait
money is beauty
but who defines that-
the media?

That
can't
be
right.
