Thinking of You
I thought of you today when the world was loud,
And felt this quiet hold
With a grip I could not shake.
You held me in promises
And kissed me goodnight,
As I closed my eyes and listened to your heart.
Your face, a distorted blur of features I could describe in an instant,
Will not form in my mind.
Your voice, soothing and irrevocably intoxicating
Whispered in my ear
It would be alright.
I can describe what you sound like,
But echoes can never compete.
I am loved by this ghost of my ideals,
Drugged on something I can never have,
Dream with, hope with,
And I feel this quiet hold.
Silence may speak louder than words,
But it’s your words I would do anything to hear.
