I’ve started this fire
A thousand times before,
Each with a different match,
And each burned exactly alike:
Hot enough to extinguish my red-hot hopes,
Blazing enough to smolder, wound,
And leave scar,
But never enough to warm me
From the inside out;
Never enough to last the night.
