Standing
Not the first time, walking down a hospital hallway for x rays.
I feel the rush of speed smoldering in me.
A volcano lying dormant, for now.
I am fifteen resting my foot for analysis.
I watch as the darkened "t'' lies atop my left support.
"How do you know when you can't run anymore?"
I plead for answers.
I've been stressed for seasons.
With understanding eyes they reply,
"When you can no longer stand."
Races and games later I remember, I smile.
The finish lines I must cross, independent,
Strained with tears and courage.
I who did not surrender, who is still running
Towards victory in front of my fears.
Steady as ever, standing.
