Remember
You know that feeling you get,
When you get your first dog,
That sparkle in their eyes,
As you walk over to them and stroke their head?
I knew that feeling once,
It was so long ago I can barely remember it,
But I remember…
I made a friend that day;
His name was Sparky,
He was a great buddy,
We played and laughed all the time,
Whether the sun was shinning or not,
Every time I saw the little guy wag his tail,
It made my day a whole lot brighter
That day, I remember…
We used to go to the camp,
And splash around in the river,
While grandpa brought along Buck,
So we could have even more fun,
We jumped over wood logs and skipped through grass fields,
Not to mention chased away annoying crows and birds,
I remember…
Sometimes he'd run away somewhere,
I'd spend hours trying to get to him,
When I did I'd scowl him,
But just because I loved him,
I didn't want him to get hurt,
I remember...
When the day went bad,
He'd come to me and nudge my hand,
As if to say;
"Hey, don't worry! Cheer up! Everything's gonna be okay."
I knew he was right,
And I'd smile,
Sometimes I swore he smiled back,
I remember...
Then, that day came…
Oh how I loath that day,
How he was just taken away,
When he was simply lying there a minute,
Then the next he's gone forever,
I didn't know what to do,
But I did something,
I screamed...
I remember...
He was my best friend,
I gave him my love,
And I gave him a good life,
I wish I could have been there,
Like he has been there for me,
But it’s too late,
Now he's gone…
But know this,
I will remember you,
Forever
