There is a stick in the machine
the thread is jammed
and an angry, torn gash
through my half finished quilt
though I'm sure the edges of the wound will soften and fray with time
right now they are as fresh and sharp
as steel
the tiny print of rosebuds on the fabric
peppering it like drops of blood
