Just one crazy country in a crazy world,
Fast food galore,
All those swear words,
An overseas war,
MP3s and cell phones,
The melting pot,
Selling drugs,
Our first black president,
(Hope he doesn’t get assassinated),
Full of patriots,
And racists,
Disney Channel, CBS,
American Idol, Taylor Swift,
Little boys with BB guns,
(What could go wrong?),
Girls hide their scars,
(Found on the inside of their arms),
Too much violence,
Day of Silence,
Praying the rosary,
Singing and dancing,
Life and death go hand in hand,
Anorexia, obesity,
Is anyone really free?
Rapists, murderers, and kidnappers,
Geniuses, slackers,
Illegal immigrants,
Everything on the Internet,
“Harry Potter”, “Twilight”,
Everything we say is never right,
Wal-Mart, Hollister,
(Whatever it takes to make people stare),
Drunk driving,
Crying, lying,
Rock n’ roll,
Fast and slow,
To Write Love on Her Arms,
Negligence harms,
Wearing the crucifix around your neck,
(And you get weird looks behind your back),
Everything just seems so wrong,
Nuclear bombs,
Teen moms,
Psychopaths, sadists,
Atheists,
Miley Cyrus has her faults,
(Is she your child’s role model?)
Sea to shining sea,
They don’t want God in the Pledge of Allegiance,
Abortion clinics,
Selling weapons,
School shootings,
People feuding,
Petitions, picket lines,
So many suicides,
(Some people think, “Why try?”)
Rioters scream and shout,
It takes a lot to act proud,
High school dropouts,
What is this country all about?
Prisons are overflowing,
Divorce rates are growing,
People put down your dreams,
The world’s falling down it seems,
Trying hard to be politically correct,
You need to learn to watch your back,
Trick or treat?
Washington D.C.
November means Thanksgiving,
(Do you spend it with your family?),
Mansions, ghettos,
Watch that radiation glow,
BP oil spill,
Doing things just for a thrill,
Remember nine eleven,
Can’t speak of your religion,
Hurricanes and Haiti,
(A helping hand for those in need),
Tumbling skyscrapers,
Bad news in the morning papers,
Yellow ribbons around trees,
Can you tell me what you think?
Poor people on the street,
Abuse and beatings,
Keep your opinions in check,
The country is in debt,
Quick to judge,
And slow to trust,
Dyed hair,
Flat out stares,
No one really seems to care,
Hola, shalom,
Bonjour, hello,
Where will this country go?

"Where to, Miss?"
"To the stars."

There's truth to this poem, and it's really well done. I personally believe, however, that America is still good at the roots, and we need to get back to that.

The negativity is frightening, but it also the truth.

I enjoyed the last few lines the most.

Yeah, America isn't great. I'll be the first one to tell you that. It though is the best place where we could possibly live. I would have liked a more hopeful ending to this poem. The way I would have ended it is "America, the diamond in the rough". Hope this helps!

Live Life Like A Party That Never Ends

I love how blunt you were! I think it might have been better to group like ideas, instead of repeating them like you did, and make stanzas out of them. The ending was great though. Good work :)
