Forgetting to Forget about you
Trying to get the telephone to ring
Is like trying to get a blue bird to sing
Predicting when you will finally call
Is like predicting when the rain will fall
It’s not an easy thing to do
And neither is forgetting you
It’s like jumping to see if you can fly
Or trying to count every star in the sky
Like waiting for the world to show your fate
Running even when you know you’re too late
It’s one of those things that’s hard to do
Just like remembering to forget about you
Trying to light the world with fireflies from a jar
And wanting to remove an old ugly scar
Resurrecting the pain of your past
Or repressing feelings you thought would last
These are things that are hard to do
Just like trying to forget about you
It’s like staying calm at the sight of a twister
Or walking away when you hear that evil whisper
Keeping your head up when the clouds are moving in
And fighting till the end when you know you can’t win
My head knows that this is what I have to do
But my heart keep forgetting to forget about you
