Becoming One Like the Wise
20 desks sat cold and still
All the same in color, shape and size
Except each had a different story to tell
They each knew, but one student
They got to know their child very well
Some envious
Some ignorant
Some lazy
Some motivated
But one desk had the best of all stories to tell
For this student knew something she'd dare not, tell know other
And this is what she said:
I respect my wise, elderly teachers like no other
For if you respect the wise you are wise
I listen
I raise my hand
I don't talk back
The others who sit upon the golden, wooden desks I am not
They are confused like a lamb who has lost its Shepard
But I am like the sun
There is only one of me
And I shine bright above all others
I am not a lost puppy, though the other students are
I'm not on that search
For I have found what I'm looking for
This girl understood this one core value
She respected her teachers
Therefore gained trust
Therefore gained respect
Therefore gained wisdom
