He promised
He promised me a story, he promised me a ring,
He promised me the future, and whatever it would bring,
He promised me a sunset, and springtime full in bloom,
He promised me his voice would scare off my every doom,
He promised me no rough times, no notches in the road,
He promised me he'd take my bag to lighten up the load,
He promised me tomorrow, a day without an end,
He promised me he'd always be, forever my best friend,
He promised me the night, the sky always holding that one star,
He promised me he could cover up my deepest scar,
He promised me that he would always care,
He promised me that, no matter what, he'd always be there,
He promised me not to worry, that he'd be waiting with open arms,
He promised me that he would keep me away from the world's worst harms,
He promised me this was different, he promised I'd be fine,
He promised me he'd never leave, saying he'd always be mine,
He promised me everything, right from the very start,
He promised me he'd always love me, and that we'd never be apart,
He promised me my heart, that the beating would never cease,
But what I guess he didn't promise is that he'd leave it in one piece.
