For Betty
I saw The Voyage of the Dawn Treader today
And I thought of you
And our summer together
Mooning over William Mosely
And avoiding the Israeli boys
So we could be alone
I read a poem today
And I thought of you
And I wished I'd kept writing
And not been so lazy
Then so cowardly
I hope we haven't changed too much
Or if we have
We changed in the same way
So that we still have the same easy friendship
As always
I thought of you on your
Birthday
I was going to write but
I chickened out
I thought too much time had passed
I still thought of you
Through all the stories of
Fire and Death
Falling Towers
I remembered
You came first
Some middle schoolers went to Bucharest
The other day
And I was going to send a letter with them
But they left before
I had a chance
They took me by surprise
So I'm writing you now
On no special occasion
Except I miss you
In no special way
Except this poem
Almost as scattered
As I am
