Love is not a feeling; it is a gift, an act, an ultimate sacrifice. -Me (Em)

Kissing surface, icy cold,
Breathe in blistering chill,
Gasp, gasp, green, gold,
Icy delicious,
Submerge,
Surge,
Deep, down,
Deeper, deeper,
Bluer, darker, truer motion,
Cello motion, longings hidden,
Broken chords, aching, churning,
Sleeping unstilled, silent yearning,
Behind a veil, a moving surface,
Inky brooding, hidden, cold,
Crushing shadows,
Final stillness.
Be freed!
Turn back,
Surge, breaking edges,
Shallowness of spun-glass circlets,
Burst vase clearings, drenching droplets
Shattering, Shrilling, quenching, quivering,
Echoing eternity, precious sunlight, oh
Sunlight, sunlight, sun, sun, sunlight!
Violin laughter, melodious beauty,
Break the surface.
Reach, reach!
Captivating,
Clasp your solo,
Precious transience,
Let rays embrace you, to
Illuminate your hidden purpose.
Gemstone, strengthened arc of body,
Victorious, transcendent romance,
Arch, bend, dance, dance,
Flashing, glittering,
Sunlit treasure,
Be freed!
Beloved, turn,
Come taste the icy heights,
Summit, surrender, revel, rejoice,
In a symphony of the immortal sun Himself!
Throw back a shadowed crystal veil,
Throw back a crushing darkness,
Embrace infinity at last,
Breaking mirror.

The author's comments:
Inspired by the airborne dance of dolphins upon the high seas, this poem was written to address the deep-seated insecurities of the teenage girl, the young woman today. I publish it now with the hope of inspiring her to shatter the mirror of self-consciousness, realizing that she has already utterly captivated the heart of a forgiving, gentle, and immensely loving God. My hope is that she may forget the burdens of striving for a winsome or attractive body, so she can gasp. Indeed, my dream is that she gasps, astonished, by how ardently she has been pursued, how fiercely she has been loved all along. 1 Peter 3:3-4 tells me, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” My wish is for each person reading this to dance as freely as the dolphins dance, reaching for the Son upon the high seas.
